How a Construct Claims More Than It Earned

Han Qin (秦汉)

Illusion as a Credential Failure

In ordinary language, illusion suggests perceptual error: a stick looks bent in water or a distant road looks wet. The First Critique uses illusion in a different sense. A construct becomes illusory when it presents a status that it has not earned.

A model can be accurate, a classification useful, and a derivation valid while illusion still occurs. The content need not be simply false. The failure is credential promotion: a local result appears as unconditional necessity, a working assumption appears as an axiom, or an author's account appears as the object's own voice.

The criterion is exact. False claiming occurs whenever a claim uses a credential absent from the list it has obtained through examination and review. The audit compares use with registry. It does not speculate about whether the person making the claim intended deception.

The First Four: Necessity, Validation, Station, Performer

The first type claims necessity. A result derivable under stated postulates is presented as unavoidable in every possible framework. The second claims validation. An item has merely been entered for review, yet later citations treat it as demonstrated.

The third claims a present station. A developmental sequence names a structural position, and a text directly announces that itself or an object has “reached” it, as if a level-name were already a measurement. The fourth claims performer status. A product, institution, or algorithm generates an output and is therefore credited with having assumed the judgment; or, in the opposite direction, an origin not found on a predetermined list is used to deny that any relevant work occurred.

All four can hide in ordinary grammar. Words such as “necessarily,” “already established,” “genuine subject,” and “mere tool” are not automatically wrong. The danger lies in the additional status they introduce without an entry in the register.

The Next Four: Branch, Zero Point, Totality, Domain

The fifth type claims cross-branch validity. A derivation made in classical logic omits its branch index and travels unchanged after the logic has been replaced. The sixth claims the position of a zero point or axiom. A replaceable undertaking is presented as something every opponent must enact even while opposing it.

The seventh claims totality. A successful correspondence at one interface becomes proof that two philosophies validate each other as wholes; a few matching examples turn a pattern into the generative law of an entire sequence. The eighth claims cross-domain validity. A structural description becomes a normative command, or a result from psychology, history, or physics enters another domain without obtaining standing there.

The eight types are not mutually exclusive. One sentence may claim validation, totality, and cross-domain force at once. Nor is the list closed. A new form can be added whenever its credential and address can be identified.

Why Illusion Persists Better Than Error

An ordinary error can be corrected by a counterexample. Illusion often absorbs counterexamples because it has claimed the authority to interpret them. A theory claiming totality redescribes dissenters as people who have not reached the relevant level. A model claiming necessity blames failure on impure inputs. An institution claiming performer status excludes the people it judges from the category of legitimate appellants.

Illusion also sediments. A convenient omission is repeated until it becomes background. Later readers inherit the conclusion but no longer see the unreviewed undertaking beneath it. Authority, technical vocabulary, and formal complexity raise the cost of reconstruction; they do not raise the claim's status.

Diagnosis must therefore ask more than “Where is this sentence mistaken?” It must also ask “By what credential does the sentence resist revision?” The more effectively a construct makes failure disappear inside its own explanation, the more urgently its credentials need comparison with the ledger.

Readdressing Instead of Deleting

Detecting false claiming does not require discarding the construct. The common remedy is downgrade and readdressing. “Necessary” returns to “derivable under P1–P4.” “This proves a subject” returns to “this exhibits a class of outputs.” “Universal law” returns to “stable relation in this sample.”

The content may remain unchanged while its status is corrected. This is why critique is not a taste for destruction. It preserves the gain and withdraws the extra credential. A locally effective model often becomes more dependable after it loses authority over the whole.

The eight illusions impose a practical discipline on SAE's dialogues with Western philosophy. Resemblance is not common origin. Mapping is not derivation. Illumination is not proof. Any sentence claiming that Plato already said SAE, Aristotle completed it, or SAE solved Kant must submit a new address. Good comparison has no need to claim victory it did not earn.
