When Two Laws Meet
Two people, each holding something arrived at over years, each of which actually organises how that person lives. One week the two of them require actions that cannot both be taken — and no ruler exists on which one could be shown truer than the other, neither may legislate for the other, and neither can settle the thing by walking out.
Seven essays on what a person does there. Not how to argue better, not how to compromise, not how to get to yes. What handling it takes, so that the handling itself does not take away the position from which a person holds a law at all.
Two gates. And size does not decide scope: a small thing handled by suppression can reach the position; a large one, with room on both sides, may never touch it. Four names that look like they set the scope, and do not.
Essay 02An apology does not dissolve the incompatibility of two laws, and the incompatibility does not excuse the apology. Graded handover, protection first, and why an arrangement is not a law.
Essay 03The paths divide by the current condition of the relation. What licenses a switch is that the reciprocal process is currently unavailable — nothing further about the other's inner life or layer. Three places this is not the War Treatise.
Essay 04Face it, deepen, be directed toward a terminus, remain open to questioning. Not four rules but four conditions the handling position itself cannot cancel — and I may stop, which does not prove them wrong.
Essay 05Deepening together, and the side where it does not happen. Cultivation is not instruction; the first step is not making him see me; and understanding why he does it settles nothing between us.
Essay 06Terminus, stopping point, removal, pause, stalling — five words, each with its own use. The two histories of consensus, mutual acknowledgement of incommensurability, and the hardest distinction in the treatise.
Essay 07Three gates that pause the unilateral path, what follows a pause, where the four constraints stand afterwards, and an express list of what this treatise did not do.
