The target contains an exit

On December 30, U.C. 0079, Sovereign Degwin Zabi approaches General Revil to seek an end to the war. Gihren fires the Solar Ray, a colony converted into a giant laser. The blast destroys roughly a third of the Federation fleet and kills both Revil and Degwin—Gihren’s own father.

As an attack on enemy capacity, the shot is spectacularly effective. It also destroys the people and situation through which the fighting might end. Tactical success and strategic prolongation occupy the same beam. Every death in the remaining battle at A Baoa Qu occurs after that exit has been deliberately removed.

This is not a claim that every action in war cleanly points toward peace or away from it. It is a narrower observation: an opportunity to negotiate had taken material form in particular people at a particular location, and the weapon erased that form together with the fleet around it.

The father included in the calculation

Gihren knows Degwin is there. Zeon’s sovereign becomes acceptable loss to Zeon’s supreme commander. The action reveals the internal order more completely than a speech could. If the highest formal authority may be kept ignorant and entered into a subordinate’s targeting calculation, no rank below him possesses an inherent claim to the whole picture.

Kycilia learns what happened and shoots Gihren for patricide. Char later kills her. A structure that treated dissent as disobedience now has no surviving procedure for resolving disagreement at the top; removal of the person becomes the remaining procedure.

The ruling Zabi generation is nearly destroyed, though the infant Mineva survives. The qualification matters. The original series ends one regime without pretending that bloodline, memory, or future claims have vanished cleanly.

Revenge that cannot repair its object

Char Aznable is Casval Rem Deikun, son of the man whose movement the Zabis appropriated. He enters Zeon under another name and devotes much of the war to revenge. He betrays Garma’s trust and finally kills Kycilia. The injuries behind his purpose are real.

Past injury does not by itself specify what present action may be done to whom. Revenge transfers a completed harm into new bodies without restoring the murdered father, the stolen name, or political standing for spacenoids. By A Baoa Qu, Char has helped remove his enemies but has not rebuilt the thing their rise destroyed.

The series does not punish him with a lecture or reward him with closure. His duel with Amuro ends without deciding the war. Revenge reaches the end of its list and discovers that completion is not the same as repair. A purpose can consume years and succeed on its own terms while leaving its original object as absent as before.
