Software stocks were hit hard: IBM dropped roughly 9%, ServiceNow fell as much as 18% intraday, and Salesforce, Oracle, and Adobe all declined. In Tehran, parliament speaker Ghalibaf withdrew from the US negotiation team under pressure from the Revolutionary Guard, handing the process to hardliners.
Two competing understandings emerged today. The first is yesterday's "extension equals resolution" consensus, shaken by the speaker's withdrawal but not yet broken. The second is a freshly solidifying belief that "AI will devour traditional software," crystallizing around IBM's 9% plunge despite beating expectations.
The divergence between oil and equities continues to widen, but the cost of expressing either view is too high. Chasing crude means buying into a thick war premium. Shorting the index requires a concrete momentum catalyst, not a political headline. IBM beating estimates and maintaining guidance while still getting hammered 9% is a textbook overreaction — but a single day's selloff is not yet enough to constitute an entry point. The narrative may need days or weeks to exhaust itself.
