Real-World Assets

Putting fund shares on-chain also brings identity, custody, correction, and legal claims back into settlement.

A token points beyond itself

A tokenized Treasury fund or credit instrument can transfer on-chain, settle quickly, and compose with other software. The economic asset, however, remains entangled with issuers, custodians, bank accounts, securities law, identity checks, and courts. The token is a precise interface to a claim whose fulfillment occurs partly elsewhere.

Control is not the legal claim

Possessing an address or token does not by itself create ownership of the underlying security if the required legal register, eligibility, or transfer restriction says otherwise. Conversely, a court or administrator may correct an erroneous on-chain state through off-chain authority. The asset cannot be understood from the token ledger alone.

Redemption is where the layers meet

A quoted on-chain price, net asset value, market liquidity, and redemption value can diverge. The important test comes when a holder requests cash, when a custodian fails, or when identities and sanctions conflict. At that moment each layer reveals what it actually promised and which institution can compel performance.

The return of institutions is not defeat

RWA projects do not betray blockchain merely by using law and custody. They show where those institutions are necessary. Progress lies in making the interfaces explicit: what the chain settles, who holds the underlying asset, who may redeem, who can correct errors, and what right remains when the software and the law disagree.
