Jedao wakes remembering military school. His body is older, strangers call him general, and an enormous war lies inside the years he cannot recall.
Kujen tells him that enemies damaged his memory. He also gives him the Revenant and the work of becoming useful as quickly as possible.
The young Jedao has no independent witness to his adult life. Every unfamiliar skill can be presented as his true nature; every anxiety can be explained as a trace of what enemies removed. Help and interpretation arrive through the same person.
Kujen is often tender. He answers shame, offers knowledge, and makes himself the safest relationship in a world Jedao does not recognize. That tenderness becomes control when access to other records, people, and possible lives depends on remaining close to him.
An amnesiac person needs time, competing accounts, and the ability to refuse the old role. Kujen supplies a command instead. The urgency shows that he did not create Jedao so that someone might recover a life; he wanted a strategic capacity returned to service.
The adult Jedao massacred both sides at Hellspin Fortress. The seventeen-year-old consciousness did not issue that order and cannot honestly confess its intention as his own.
Yet the same face, name, military intuition, and authority affect survivors and soldiers now. They do not owe immediate trust simply because a difficult theory of identity might call him new.
He can meet that history without accepting punishment for a memory he never lived: learn the records, surrender unchecked fleet power, support the victims' account, and let present conduct be observed. Risk limits are not a declaration that he is secretly guilty; they recognize the real power carried by his inheritance.
Jedao's tactical skill survives outside explicit memory. Kujen imagines he can keep the useful genius while deleting the political development that once turned against him.
But skill is not destiny. The same ability can serve conquest, evacuation, teaching, surrender, or no military purpose at all. Being exceptionally good at war does not mean the most authentic future is to remain a general.
The young Jedao begins becoming himself when he separates what his body can do from what Kujen says it is for. He may never recover a complete past. He can still decide which evidence to believe, which relationships may answer him, and when the most honest use of a legendary command is to put it down.
