Paul sees armies crossing the universe beneath the green-and-black banner of the Atreides. They shout Muad'Dib's name. Billions die in a war that turns his survival into revelation.

He does not want this future. He continues to gather the power that makes it possible.

Prescience turns roads into corridors

Spice enlarges Paul's training into visions of branching outcomes. Knowledge protects him from traps, joins distant causes, and shows consequences invisible to everyone around him. It also creates a private political advantage no one can audit.

The more Paul sees, the easier it becomes to describe each choice as the least disastrous route. Alternatives appear already calculated, their unseen lives converted into losses on an inner map. Other people cannot challenge a future available only through his body.

Foreknowledge is not authorship. A vision may reveal where a road leads without granting the seer ownership of everyone who will walk it.

The threat to destroy spice wins the throne

Paul learns how worms, water, and the pre-spice cycle hold Arrakis together. At the climax, he threatens to break that cycle and end spice production. The resource through which the empire controls Arrakis becomes the lever by which Arrakis can control the empire.

The move defeats the Emperor and the Harkonnens. It also concentrates planetary knowledge and universal dependence in Paul's decision. Liberation from one monopoly is achieved by making his own threat final.

He marries Princess Irulan to secure the succession while Chani remains the partner he loves. The political solution uses two women's lives differently: one as dynastic form, one as private truth. Even after overthrowing an order built on arranged bodies, Paul still makes bodies carry the settlement.

A name can march after its owner

Paul knows that dying may not stop the jihad; a martyr can be more powerful than a living commander. This is the trap of a successful sacred identity. Once thousands have placed hope, revenge, and belonging inside Muad'Dib, the name no longer waits for the person to approve each use.

Yet difficulty of exit is not proof that further concentration is responsible. Paul can distinguish defense of Arrakis from conquest in his name, expose the manufactured parts of the prophecy, and give Fremen leaders access to what he knows. None guarantees a clean future. They would at least make the future less privately owned.

Dune ends before the armies depart. Victory fills the room; the jihad is still a vision. That interval is where the tragedy lives. Paul can see the corridor and recognizes the sound coming through it. He walks to the throne anyway, while far ahead strangers are already learning to kill beneath his name.
