Reading Dying to Survive

Three essays on defensible rules that produce an unlivable result, a profiteer's second return, and the small refusals of people who never become saints.

Dying to Survive is strongest when it refuses the comfort of a single villain. Innovation, drug safety, law enforcement, affordability, and a patient's wish to live all make claims that cannot be dismissed. These essays stay inside that collision while separating the film's fictional case from the real legal history that inspired it.

Based on Wen Muye's 2018 film Dying to Survive, a fictional story partly inspired by Lu Yong. Drug-law descriptions are stated in their historical context and checked against the law then in force and later revisions.
