Three essays on a protective ban inherited as control, an afterlife administered through remembrance, and a stolen song restored to its first listener.

Coco begins with a family's effort to survive abandonment and ends by revising the story on which that survival was organized. These essays ask when protection becomes prohibition, how remembrance distributes existence, and why repairing a tradition is different from discarding it.

Based on Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina's 2017 Pixar film Coco. The essays distinguish the film's explicit afterlife rules from visual and ethical inferences drawn from them.
