Three essays on censored frames, a loving command that becomes thirty years of exile, and the reel that preserves what a town was forbidden to see.

Cinema Paradiso is remembered as a love letter to movies. Its love is made of cuts: kisses removed by a priest, a young man cut away from home, and fragments joined after the stories around them are gone. These essays ask what preservation can save—and what it cannot repair.

Based on Giuseppe Tornatore's 1988 film Cinema Paradiso, using the widely released theatrical cut. The substantially longer director's cut restores the adult Elena story and changes the moral weight of Alfredo's intervention.
