In 1903, the Italian mathematician Giuseppe Peano published what he called "Latino Sine Flexione" — Latin Without Inflections. His goal was precise and strange: strip Classical Latin of all case endings and verb conjugations, keep the roots and word order, and produce an international written language that any educated European could use to read mathematical propositions within hours. He wrote his later papers in it, it circulated briefly among a small circle of scholars, and then it sank. Nobody picked it up. Nobody completed the grammar. It hung there, suspended between construct and abandonment, carrying its own internal logic but belonging to no established place.

Devine Lu Linvega, living on a sailboat without reliable internet and building everything on a local Uxn/Varvara stack, decided to pick it up. On the XXIIVV wiki, they have been formalizing Peano's fragments into a proper BNF (Backus-Naur Form) grammar — a variant they call Lø, which takes Peano's language further toward compression: trailing vowels removed, repeated consonants eliminated, every word reduced to its shortest recognizable form. Lø is a language that can be checked by code — each BNF rule is a computable assertion about grammaticality, machine-parseable and humanly learnable in hours at once.

This is 余项之美 in a structurally precise sense. The "already-construct" (已构) here is the family of finished auxiliary languages — Esperanto, Interlingua, Ido — languages with names, communities, textbooks, and stable grammars. Their beauty is the sediment of a past moment; their position is fixed. The "remainder" (余项) is: a mathematician's 1903 experiment that was never adopted, and a programmer-artist's attempt to give it computational structure 120 years later. The chisel-construct cycle (凿构循环) runs very slowly here: each time a BNF rule is refined or a homophone collision is resolved, that's the chisel stroke; and new ambiguities surface at the edges immediately. The grammar itself is alive and unfinished, and that unfinishedness is not a defect — it is the mark of the remainder still living.

In July 2026, Thousand Rooms — a short visual novel created with illustrator Rekka Bellum — was released in its Lø version, titled Mil Camer. This is the first complete literary work generated in this language. The release is not a mechanical translation exercise; it is a threshold being crossed. Lø has become coherent enough to carry a story, to sustain a reader across a narrative. But "coherent enough" is not "finished." The dictionary is still expanding, edge cases in the grammar are still under debate, and the devlog shows active revision. This is a language in production, not in archive.

The art world has no word yet for "a generative visual novel written in a computationally formalized reconstruction of an unfinished 1903 mathematical auxiliary language." That absence of naming is the structural evidence that this remains a remainder. It is not fully linguistics, not fully computing, not fully literature — it lives suspended between all three, and that suspension is where its structural aliveness resides. Seeing Lø now, before the name arrives, is seeing it while it still breathes as remainder. Once a category claims it, the freshness of the remainder will fade and something safer will take its place. Today it remains in between, still alive.
