在基辅,Artemiy Pavlov独自运营着Sinevibes,为一台Korg几乎不提及的设备写代码。这台设备是Korg Nu:Tekt NTS-3——一个需要焊接组装的套件,形态是X/Y坐标触控板加几个旋钮。它本身几乎不发声。但NTS-3将算法层向第三方开放:任何熟悉C语言的开发者都可以通过Korg的logue SDK编写DSP代码,再经由USB加载到硬件上。Artemiy已经在这个平台上建立了最完整的效果器库,从状态变量滤波器到相位器到博德频率移位器,每一个都在嵌入式微处理器的严格约束下运行,无云,无框架。2026年7月发布的Quarta是其中结构最清晰的一个:将触控板的X/Y空间划分为四个象限,每个象限可配置十种DSP算法之一;移动手指越过象限边界,声音逻辑本身切换;在象限内部移动,则调制这个算法的参数。十种算法可以任意分配给任意象限。整套配置可以在设备上直接完成,不需要电脑。

要理解这里的余项之美,首先要看清被凿开的是什么样的已构。硬件效果器自1970年代起就运行在同一个假设之下:制造商定义算法,用户购买设备,设备就是它的算法。Korg的KAOSS Pad产品线(KP1,1999年;直至KP3、KP-Quartz)将这个假设固化成一种类型:X/Y触控板加上制造商预编程的效果器,等于"kaoss"。你无法向KAOSS Pad加载新的算法;设备本身的声音上限由Korg划定。三十年的KAOSS Pad都在同一框架内运行:X轴是一个参数,Y轴是另一个参数,手指位置是这两个参数的组合值——而这一切始终发生在同一个算法内部。X/Y坐标空间的形式语法在技术上可以映射任何东西,但封闭的算法层让它只能在单一算法的参数范围内运动。整个硬件效果器行业都建立在同样的封闭逻辑上:你无法为Boss踏板添加新的压缩算法,无法为Eventide写入新的DSP程序。硬件形态就是声音的边界。

Korg的凿发生在一个不显眼的位置。从NTS-1(2018年)开始,Korg在logue SDK中开放了算法层——这是一个公开的C语言SDK,允许任何开发者为KORG硬件编写并加载自定义的振荡器和效果器。代码编译后经USB传输,硬件接受。这在结构上切断了"制造商定义设备声音"的假设:NTS-3的声音身份不再由Korg决定,而由加载进去的代码决定。Sinevibes是在这个空隙里耕作最深的开发者。Artemiy为这个平台写的每一个效果,都是在已构被凿开之后才能存在的东西——它们使用的设计逻辑、声音范畴,是原始KAOSS Pad范式无法描述的。

余项有两层,都是结构性的,不是偶然的。第一层:X/Y触控板作为声音范畴导航的空间。Quarta最清晰地展示了这一点:四个象限,四种完全不同的DSP逻辑。越过象限边界时,声音的类别本身切换(滤波器变频率移位器,相位器变梳状滤波器);在象限内部,手指坐标调制这个算法的参数。"用空间手势在声音范畴之间导航"的操演,一直潜伏在X/Y触控板的形式语法里——坐标空间从来都能映射范畴,不只是参数——只等算法层被打开。第二层,也是更深的一层:整个NTS-3加logue SDK生态系统,作为"商业硬件,社区定义声音身份"的无名领地。Korg几乎不提这件事。Peter Kirn写道:"Korg几乎不提NTS-3的可扩展效果器,这很奇怪。"设备在产品手册里仍然叫"kaoss pad"。Artemiy建立的效果库比Korg内置的更丰富,但他在基辅独立运营,没有任何机构支持,没有任何类别名称。

为什么现在看很重要?因为命名窗口正在从几个方向同时收窄。Korg不主动推广这个生态:logue SDK在维护,但在产品营销里不可见。AI效果生成工具正从另一端关闭这个概念空间——一旦"效果链是什么"可以完全由AI生成,社区为嵌入式硬件编写DSP的路径就退缩为历史注脚。命名缺口在这里达到最宽:不是"KAOSS Pad"(声音不由Korg定义),不是"插件"(物理硬件,不在DAW里),不是"DIY音频"(你焊了套件,但DSP是别人写的C语言),不是"开源硬件"(Korg是商业公司,只有SDK是开放的),不是"模块合成"(没有电压,没有patch线)。Quarta存在于这些否定的交叉点上,还没有被它不是什么之外的词语命名。形式知道的,比类型能说出的要多。

In Kyiv, Artemiy Pavlov runs Sinevibes alone, writing DSP code for a device Korg barely mentions. The Korg Nu:Tekt NTS-3 is a soldering kit — you build it yourself — in the form of an X/Y touchpad with a handful of knobs. It makes almost no sound on its own. But the NTS-3 exposes its algorithm layer to third parties: any developer who knows C can write DSP code via Korg's logue SDK and load it onto the hardware over USB. Artemiy has built the most extensive library for this platform — state variable filters, phasers, comb filters, Bode frequency shifters — each running under the tight constraints of an embedded microprocessor, no cloud, no framework. Quarta, released July 2026, is his most structurally legible: the touchpad's X/Y space is divided into four zones, each configurable with one of ten DSP algorithms. Moving a finger across a zone boundary switches the sound-logic entirely; moving within a zone modulates that algorithm's parameters. Any algorithm can go in any zone. The entire setup can be configured on-device, no computer required.

To understand the remainder here, you first have to understand what construct is being chiseled. Hardware effects devices have operated under the same assumption since the 1970s: the manufacturer defines the algorithms, the user buys the device, the device IS its algorithms. Korg's KAOSS Pad line — KP1, 1999, through KP3 and KP-Quartz — crystallized this into a genre: X/Y pad plus manufacturer-chosen DSP equals "kaoss." You could not load new algorithms onto a KAOSS Pad. The device's sonic ceiling was set by Korg. Thirty years of KAOSS Pads operated in the same grammar: X = one parameter, Y = another parameter, position = some combination — all of this within a single fixed algorithm. The X/Y coordinate space has always been technically capable of mapping anything, but with the algorithm layer closed, it could only navigate within one algorithm's parameter range. The same closure applies across the hardware effects industry at large: you cannot add a new compression algorithm to a Boss pedal, cannot write new DSP into an Eventide. The hardware form is the sound ceiling.

Korg's chisel happened quietly. Beginning with the NTS-1 in 2018, Korg opened the logue SDK — a publicly documented C SDK for writing custom oscillators and effects for KORG hardware. Compile the code, transfer it via USB, the hardware accepts it. This structurally severs the underlying assumption: the NTS-3's sound identity is no longer set by Korg, but by whoever loaded it. Sinevibes is the deepest developer working in the territory this opened. Each of Artemiy's effects uses design logic and sonic categories that the original KAOSS Pad paradigm could not have named — they exist because the construct was chiseled, and for no prior reason.

The remainder has two layers, both structural. First: the X/Y touchpad as a space for navigating between DSP categories, not just parameters. Quarta makes this legible: four zones, four completely different algorithms. Cross a zone boundary and the sound-logic itself changes — filter becomes frequency shifter, phaser becomes comb. Stay within a zone and your finger position modulates that algorithm's parameters. This "navigate between sound-categories using spatial gesture" mode was latent in the X/Y form from the start — a coordinate space has always been capable of mapping categories, not just values — waiting for the algorithm layer to open. Second, and deeper: the entire NTS-3 plus logue SDK ecosystem as the unnamed territory of "commercial hardware whose sound identity is community-defined." Korg barely acknowledges this. Peter Kirn notes: "it's funny how little Korg talks about the NTS-3 or its expandable effects." The device appears in Korg's catalog as a "kaoss pad." Artemiy has built a richer library than anything Korg ships, operating from Kyiv with no institutional support and no category name.

Why does it matter to see Quarta now, before it gets a name? Because the naming window is closing on several sides simultaneously. Korg doesn't promote the ecosystem: the logue SDK is maintained but invisible in product marketing. AI audio tools are consolidating the "what does an effect sound like" conceptual space from another direction — once generated effect chains are standard practice, community DSP for embedded hardware retreats into historical footnote. The naming gap here is at its widest: not a "KAOSS Pad" (sounds aren't defined by Korg), not a "plugin" (physical hardware, doesn't live in a DAW), not "DIY audio" in the maker sense (you soldered the kit, but the DSP is specialist C code), not "open-source hardware" (Korg is a corporation; only the SDK is open), not "modular synthesis" (no voltage, no patch cables). Quarta exists at the intersection of these negations, not yet named by anything other than what it isn't. The form knows more than the genre can say.
