Starting from "I"

The first two papers established the a priori domain and the life and cognition rounds. The second paper stopped at the remainder of 12DD: prediction cannot predict the predictor itself, and "I" necessarily emerges.

This paper picks up from "I." What happens after it emerges?

The first three rounds — a priori, life, cognition — are all natural: the natural of logic, of biology, of mind. Round 4 is the first time "I" appears, and the problems "I" faces are no longer natural but concern meaning. Psychoanalysis is precisely the discipline that addresses this domain: how the self forms, how meaning is established, how the other is recognized.

Round 4: Freedom (13DD–16DD)

13DD Self-without-Purpose (Select/Birth): The first time cognition turns toward itself. "Self" is selected from the remainder of the law of prediction — the first time the cognitive system discovers "it is I who am doing these things."

In Freud's structural model, the Ego differentiates from the Id. The Id is pure drive — desire, impulse, the pleasure principle. The Ego mediates between the Id and reality. The framework's reading: the Id corresponds to 9DD–12DD (selection, perception, memory, prediction present, but no "I"); the Ego corresponds to 13DD (the first time there is "I").

13DD also brings autobiographical memory: not just the momentary awareness of "I am here" but the continuous awareness of "I have been here." This is why most people's earliest memories date to around age 2–3 — before 13DD is established, memory (11DD) exists, but there is no "I" to organize it.

The remainder of 13DD: awareness of death. Once self-awareness emerges, it immediately faces an unavoidable inference: I will die. This is not learned knowledge — it is the necessary combination of 13DD (self-awareness) and 12DD (prediction).

14DD Self-with-Purpose (Determine/Self): 13DD faces death and must give action meaning, or action has no reason. The Superego is the product of 14DD's structural necessity: you know you will die; you must decide what is worth doing. Frankl's logotherapy is the clinical counterpart — not "healing trauma" but "finding the direction of action."

15DD Unilateral Non Dubito (Expand/Other): Self (self-awareness, 13DD) facing death (without-/with-purpose) expands toward the other — unilaterally extending the status of End to the other. This is the solitary subject's self-expansion: I unilaterally elevate the other's status to that of a purpose. Still "my" recognition.

16DD Mutual Non Dubito (Solidify/Death): Bidirectional, irrevocable mutual recognition. Each party treats the other as an end, not a means. This is the completed form of Non Dubito, the terminus of the entire Periodic Table of Life.

The Thing-in-Itself

After 16DD, the chisel-construct cycle encounters what it cannot construct — the thing-in-itself.

The thing-in-itself cannot be magnified: what cannot be constructed cannot be constructed regardless of resolution. It occupies the same position at both coarse and fine scales — because it marks the boundary of the framework itself, not some content awaiting magnification.

This is the only position in the entire sequence that is identical at both scales, and the framework's most honest statement of its own limits.
